We’ve reached the third episode of our Tutorials!
After learning how to strip our fabric cables and then how to connect a lamp holder, today we’ll see how to connect the plug: a very simple and quick task, but precisely for this reason it’s worth learning to do it yourself, saving both time and money, without needing to call an electrician.
First of all, let’s clarify that there are different types of plugs: in this case, we’ll be wiring a European two-pin plug, used in many lamps and various applications throughout almost all European countries. The special feature of this plug is that it doesn’t require an earth connection, so it can be used with our 2x0.75 electric cables. Moreover, it’s not polarised, so it can be connected either way without any issue, and plugged straight into the wall socket.
The tools needed to connect the electric plug are very basic: a screwdriver, preferably with an insulated handle, will be sufficient! Of course, we remind you that it is essential to carry out the entire operation with the power switched off, for maximum safety.

Let's start by dismantling the plug, unscrewing the screw on the outer casing and, once opened, removing the internal cable clamp, which is held in place by two screws. The latter protects the plug in the event of tugs, preserving its functionality.

Remove the electric cable housing (shown in green in the photos) from its position inside the plug, and loosen the terminal screws. Once this is done, it's time to insert the previously stripped electric cables: if you’re unsure how to do this, you can read our tutorial on how to strip fabric cables! Once the electric cables are inserted into the appropriate terminals, tighten the screws and reposition the housing inside the body of the plug.

We’ve almost finished wiring our plug, all that’s left is to reassemble it! Close the internal cable clamp by screwing the fixing screws back into the body of the plug. Make sure the clamp presses on a section of the wire that hasn’t been stripped yet, for greater stability! Finally, reposition the body of the plug and tighten the external screw. And there you have it: we’ve wired our electric plug!
