Tutorial #2 – How to wire the lampholder?

Over the past month, we have introduced many new products and ideas to our catalogue, allowing you to develop your interior design projects even further and even better!

New fabric cables in many different finishes and patterns, new LED light bulbs, and lots of new lampshades in every possible design and shape: there really is something for everyone!

However, we haven’t forgotten our tutorials; in fact, today we’re bringing you a new one, focusing on the object that connects all the elements of your lamp: cable, lampshade and light bulb all need to be connected to the lamp holder.

For today’s guide, we’ll be referring to a lamp holder with a threaded body and 2 rings, made from thermoplastic material, which you’ll find—along with many others—on our store.

We are often asked by some of you about the method to use for connecting a lamp holder to our cables and, in fact, creating a first and basic lamp: well, it’s nothing complicated, and today we’ll discover how to do it! The first step is therefore to dismantle the lamp holder and separate all its parts. Unscrew the two rings from the threaded body, which will later be used to secure the lampshade, as well as the threaded body itself. You will be left with the rear part of the lamp holder, containing the contacts and with the cable clamp screwed on. To separate the contacts from this part, you need to act on the anti-loosening mechanism, a locking system that prevents the upper ring from unscrewing when removing, by unscrewing, the light bulb.

To carry out this operation, simply lift the metal tab inside using a screwdriver, until it passes the plastic block on the body of the lamp holder: easy, right? Please remember to carry out all these steps STRICTLY WITH THE ELECTRICITY SWITCHED OFF, for your safety.

At this stage, unscrew the cable clamp and proceed to insert the electrical cable, which we have previously stripped (if you don't remember how, you can refresh your memory with our guide on how to strip fabric cables!), into the two terminal blocks.

Once the two segments of electric cable have been inserted into the terminals and stripped to expose the copper wires inside, we firmly tighten the screws on the terminals with our flathead screwdriver. All good? The hardest part is already behind us!

We reposition the contacts at the back of the lamp holder, making sure to engage the anti-loosening mechanism so that the components are properly closed and secure, by turning the contact block in the opposite direction to the one previously used to unlock the lampholder.

We’ve almost finished assembling our lamp holder, connecting it to the fabric cable. Once the contacts are connected at the back, we screw the cable clamp back on to keep the cable firmly in place, as well as the threaded body: everything is ready to screw in the light bulb and bring new light into our home!
