"Now our HubLab shines with beautiful lights, powered by the fiery red and fluorescent orange conduits that Tommy himself chose. It’s a note of colourful optimism that’s part of our challenge to the greyness of a selfish society that is insensitive to anyone who, like us, has ‘non-standard’ points of view and attitudes."
Gianluca Nicoletti
The story is told by Gianluca Nicoletti himself, president of the “Fondazione Cervelli ribelli Onlus”, journalist, writer and for decades a well-known voice on Italian national radio. Nicoletti has a 23-year-old autistic son, Tommy, who has a natural artistic talent.
In the central Prati district of Rome, the “Cervelli Ribelli HubLab” is being established, where young people with autism will work towards building their independence and, above all, will experience genuine social and workplace inclusion. It will be a permanent workshop open to experimentation with micro-enterprise models dedicated to families caring for people with vulnerabilities. In addition, it will also serve as a Hub for sharing best practices and so it must be a beautiful place.
Nicoletti continues: “I took on the task of securing the future of my autistic son Tommy, for when I will no longer be able to care for him. Tommy is 23 and an emerging artist, I am 67 and a journalist of retirement age: I thought it was time to consider the ‘after me’.

"I would like to prove that a model of possible and genuine social and work inclusion exists for vulnerable people like my son. So I decided to buy myself the place to create what I have in mind, and I am sure that, if replicated, it could save so many rebellious minds like Tommy’s from exile."

"While we were designing the systems, I thought our guests would appreciate an unconventional aesthetic touch that would highlight their delight in being happily ‘off the beaten track’. That’s when I came across the online catalogue of Creative Cables; sending an email and meeting Tommy at their Rome shop happened almost instantaneously."

It took imagination and creativity to integrate aesthetic innovation with the traditional base of a very complex system, given the need for a home automation technology that would "collaborate" with the guests’ vulnerabilities.
As the basis for all connections and controls, we used TUBES cables and accessories, the system by Creative-Cables that combines the aesthetics of textile covering with the practicality of a true surface-mounted system, complemented by other elements such as the Sistema S14, Spostaluce and concrete components like the Rose One and E27 lamp holders, which blended perfectly with the industrial style and exposed pipes of the structure.
We are truly delighted to have contributed to this wonderful initiative, to which we wish every success.
