Warm LED light: is 1800K, 2200K, or 2700K better?

pendant spotlight and wall lamps

Choosing the right shade of warm LED light is essential to bring out the best in a room and avoid eye strain.

The colour temperature of light (tone) is a distinctive feature of different light sources and is measured in degrees Kelvin (K). It is the Kelvin rating that tells us whether a light bulb will emit a warm or cool LED light (find out the difference here), allowing us to create the perfect atmosphere while also reducing eye strain. But if we opt for a light bulb with warm light, what is the best tone between 1800K, 2200K and 2700K?

How many Kelvins does a warm LED light have?

Warm light is that in which the temperature reaches up to 3300K, which is quite low given that there are light bulbs with a shade of around 6500K. The hues of this type of light include not only shades of white, but also yellow and orange. Below 2700K, we refer to very warm light: for example, a candle flame emits a light of about 1000K, with orange and red glows. Here is a basic outline:

  • Warm light: up to 3300K, with yellow and orange hues.
  • Neutral light: between 3300K and 4500K, similar to natural light.
  • Cool light: above 4500K, with bluish-white tones.

When should you choose warm LED light?

Warm LED light is ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and areas dedicated to relaxation. Unsurprisingly, it is the most commonly used at home, especially in spaces where you want to create a cosy and pleasant atmosphere. It relaxes, warms the environment, and makes everything more comfortable. In some cases, it is also used in offices or studies because, if balanced well, it is less tiring on the eyes and is perfect for rooms where you spend a lot of time.

Which temperature should you choose for warm LED light?

The choice depends on the room and the desired effect. Here’s a practical guide:

1800K – Romantic and soft effect
Tone: red, orange, smoky
Ideal for: pubs, bars, vintage decorative lamps

2200K – Cosy, intimate atmosphere
Shade: warm yellow, similar to candlelight
Ideal for: living rooms, lounges, bedrooms, relaxation corners

2700K – The classic for the home
Shade: warm white with golden tonesIdeal for: restaurants, kitchens, bathrooms, studies, modern spaces

And what about 3000K light? Although it’s still considered a warm light, it has a less golden and more neutral tone: it’s suitable for kitchens and bathrooms, but for those who want a warm and cosy atmosphere, 2200K and 2700K remain the best options.

Can different colour temperatures be combined?

Absolutely. Playing with different shades of light in a space is like mixing the ingredients of a perfect cocktail: the right balance of warmth and brightness can transform any space into a unique visual experience. For example:

  • In an open-plan space, you can use 2700K for the kitchen area and 2200K for the living area.
  • In offices, combining 3500K at workstations and 2700K in relaxation areas enhances productivity.

In restaurants and bars, alternating warm and neutral lights can enhance the décor and make the atmosphere more welcoming. In conclusion, the colour temperature of LED light is an essential element for creating the right mood.

1800K, 2200K or 2700K light? The choice depends on your needs, style, and the function of the space.
